Based on my review of Barclays as featured on their WikiFX profile, I approach this broker with considerable skepticism, particularly regarding asset trading like Gold (XAU/USD) and Crude Oil. Barclays Japan is described as offering a wide selection of financial services—ranging from investment banking to foreign exchange and derivatives trading. While this broad statement might imply access to major trading instruments, including commodities, the lack of concrete details about their actual tradeable asset list leaves much uncertain for retail traders like myself. More concerning is the explicit warning that Barclays in Japan operates without any valid regulatory oversight. This not only raises red flags about credibility, but also means there is no external authority ensuring the transparency or fair treatment of clients, especially when it comes to popular instruments like gold and oil. My own approach as a forex trader is to insist on clear, regulated, and transparent product offering before putting funds at risk. With Barclays, I cannot confidently verify whether trading in XAU/USD or crude oil is even available—let alone whether the trading terms are fair or if client funds are safe. Past user reports of account and withdrawal issues further add to my caution. For me, unless a broker provides both regulation and specific, easily-verified information about tradeable assets, I avoid engaging with them and would strongly recommend others exercise the same degree of caution.
