After thoroughly reviewing AMTD as part of my due diligence process, I have found that AMTD’s fee structure is not clearly defined or transparent in the public materials I could access. Specifically, there is no explicit information regarding the presence or absence of an inactivity fee, nor any details about the terms associated with such a charge. As someone who has learned to prioritize regulatory clarity and fee transparency in choosing a broker, this lack of information raises concerns for me. Adding to my caution, AMTD’s regulatory status is listed as “unverified” despite a claimed association with the Hong Kong SFC, and there are flags about high potential risk, unclear business scope, and a missing physical presence. In my experience, these are significant points to consider, especially for those who may not be actively trading at all times. Unclear or hidden inactivity fees are not uncommon in the industry, and without explicit confirmation from AMTD, I cannot confidently rule out their existence. Therefore, given the importance of understanding all potential costs, I would advise anyone—myself included—to be very careful and seek direct, written confirmation from the broker regarding any and all account maintenance or inactivity charges before opening or funding an account. For me, the combination of regulatory ambiguity and lack of fee transparency would be reason enough to consider alternative, more transparent brokers.
