The rationale for these requirements is rooted in Canadian regulatory standards—brokers like RBC Direct Investing must comply with anti-money laundering and anti-fraud laws, making the “know your client” (KYC) process mandatory. From my perspective, while this may feel stringent, I recognize it is fundamentally in place to protect both the client and the institution and to ensure that unauthorized withdrawals can’t occur.
